Maximilian Schaefer

PhD student

Max is a PhD student in the Merad lab, where he investigates macrophages and myelopoiesis in both homeostasis and disease.

He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in pharmaceutical sciences at the Free University of Berlin, and is a licensed pharmacist in Germany. Driven to deepen his expertise in immunology, Max moved to Switzerland to pursue a master's degree at the ETH Zurich. There, he trained with Burkhard Becher–gaining proficiency in high-dimensional flow cytometry of cancer patients–and with Federica Sallusto, advancing work on in vitro DCpoiesis and genome-wide CRISPR screens in human T cells.
